Do not forget, that you do not have to include any details. Recently I saw quite below average thriller [Donkey Punch](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0988849/?ref_=nv_sr_1) which is being placed in Spain. But whole Spain serves just as _background_ to the story and because it actually takes place on a yacht in the middle of sea, you could successfully move the story to Hawaii without any influence to the story itself.

I would recommend one better rule: **Be creative**. In one of my parody stories, I used [Canton Tower](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canton_Tower) as hideout of the bad guys. I do not know anything about China, or that tower in particular. I just liked the picture of it. And the setup of parody offered me possibility to use that.
