Since the reader doesn't need to meet the groups, but they do need to meet each other, why not just do it "off camera." You could do a chapter break right after the meeting, and start in again with something like "After three weeks together, there was still some lingering tension between the two groups, but for the most part..." Of course that might skip over time that could be useful for you, but you can always add it back in later.
