Not necessarily disagreeing with @Ralph's answer, but if you're interested in genre fiction you might want to search at [Ralan's](http://ralan.com/) or [Duotrope](http://www.duotrope.com/index.aspx). (For example, [Daily SF](http://dailysciencefiction.com/submit/story/guidelines) pays 8c a word for flash.) Many markets have upper limits but not necessarily lower limits for word counts.
