You should consider whether you're better at writing in a chatty style or writing with thought that can be edited and made better. You can choose not to read the comments, and there are some groups where I think you should never even look at them. But people from a lot of different groups have good things to say in the comments. You could always take a mix of the two methods by only commenting on things that are really important and leaving bigger issues for later articles.
