You're looking at this from the wrong side. Your goal isn't to include or to represent. **Your goal is to tell a story**. The story should contain all the elements that it requires, and nothing but the elements it requires. "Including" anything that isn't useful to the story in any way is called 'shoehorning', and is not a good practice. Is your story served in any way by some of the characters following some religion(s) to some extent? Does it add tension where tension is required, does it set up some theme you wish to explore, does it do _anything_? Then go ahead and include it. If it does nothing for the story, or if the absence of religion does something for the story, then don't have religion. It's that simple.
