I'd argue that quotation marks like `“ ”` _are_ the ordinary ones, and quotation marks like `" "` are the strange ones. :) But if you prefer typewriter-style quotation marks, that's fine. According to [the OpenOffice wiki](https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/UserGuide/AutoCorrect), you can change this behavior by opening the AutoCorrect options, clicking the “Localized Options” tab, and un-checking the “Replace” option in the “Double quotes” section.
