I believe an unlikable character can be sympathetic, although that's tricky. But can you go the other way? Can your character be likable but at the same time unsympathetic? I've been trying and failing to think of examples. I mean likable to the readers, btw. I'd especially appreciate examples of characters you found absolutely likable but weren't sympathetic towards.
