As an amateur writer who has just finished my first manuscript, I want a _qualified, non-biased, and thorough_ opinion on whether what I've written is any good. I recently heard about a service offered by Kirkus where I can pay about $400 or $500 to receive a "professional review" of my manuscript. Kirkus dangles the possibility that the review might be read by someone important, leading to publishing offers -- but for now, I'm more interested in getting the pro-caliber feedback than the long-shot at exposure. **So is it worth it for me -- a hopeful upstart with my first manuscript in hand -- to pay for a Kirkus review?** Again, what I'm interested in is the _feedback_, not the potential exposure.
