Either is fine. But they have slightly different... connotations. "In the beginning" makes most people in the western world think/associate that ancient book called the (Christian) Bible. A number of good answers, indeed. But why not just leave it as "foreign"? Flavor indeed. Don't think it's too hard to find out, and it gives not just flavor but authenticity. I pretty vividly remember the fight scene in about all of Robert Ludlum's novels. Question Examples for books that don't use (traditional) chapters?
I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett, and he doesn't use chapters (mostly). Are there any other authors who tend to not use traditional chapters or chapters at all in novels?
