I think it's about aspiration, about claim-staking, and about self-importance — and, in some cases, ultimately about denying the competition. The number of one-word titles is far smaller than the number of multiple-word titles; and for a given subject, there are only a few relevant single-word title...

Another difference between the two forms is that the first makes it clear where the patronising smile is directed, i.e. whom it's patronising. Answer A: Author changing name
One example is Janet Jeppson, who wrote a few books under the name ‘J. O. Jeppson’, but after marrying Isaac Asimov wrote many more (some alone, some with her husband), mostly under the name ‘Janet Asimov’, but occasionally as ‘J. O. Jeppson’ or ‘Janet Jeppson Asimov’.

Answer A: I have three dead-end chapters. Should I keep them or remove them?
(Disclaimer: I'm not a writer…) Is it possible that some readers don't see the point of those chapters because they don't have a lasting effect on the story? If so, then the solution may be to give them a lasting effect on the story; most obviously, on the main character.&nbsp; Show her frustration...
