I've seen this problem even on desktop - particularly if a blog with some code has a relatively narrow center section due to wasted space on the left and right (typically with stuff on the left and right at the top but then wasted on the rest of the page, but that really doesn't matter for this parti...

Click is really the correct term. I know it is a made-up action description for a mouse or trackball. It requires on-the-fly mental replacement with tap when used with a touch-screen (phone, tablet or larger). In SomeOther systems, there is an easy way to mark an Answer as the "accepted answer". I don't see an obvious way to do that here. Is there a way? If not, should there be?
