Question | — |
Would a category to publish works or to request feedback be helpful? Aside from the challenges category, it crossed my mind that it'd be nice to have a place where people can share works for feedback (or just to share). For instance, if I've put together a short story or an article, it'd be nice to have a place to submit for review by other writers, or to just have a ... (more) |

A scroll through the Newsletters and other [blog posts](https://meta.codidact.com/categories/30) should bring you up to speed on major developments for the project as a whole; if you meant Writing specifically, poking through meta is the only way I can think of. (more) |

A: Move old writing challenges to writing challenge category? Done. Moderators have a "change category" tool that allows for moving posts between categories. I just manually moved the two challenges that were on Meta to the Challenges category. (more) |

Question | — |
Is there any benefit when writing out instructions to split it up into lots of little paragraphs, or is it better to leave it in one paragraph? I was putting together an instruction page (for setting up a game that my business created), which included a whole lot of various pointers, most of which were only a sentence or two long. These explained various parts of how the game setup worked. I noticed while editing this document that the ot... (more) |

This was a bit out of my comfort zone (I've never had a dog, and my knowledge of how they behave basically comes from the internet) and I wrote it on my phone while exhausted late at night, so I have no idea how it actually came out :D (more) |

A: Writing challenge #4: Cats and dogs CW: animal abuse, animal death "Come on, Rosie!" It's those familiar words that mean it's time for my favorite activity: WALKIES. It's the same phrase that he's used almost every day for the past twelve years, and it's always hugely exiting. WALKIES!! I bound over, wagging my tail furiously.... (more) |

Question | — |
Is writing policy pages in a lighthearted manner harmful in any way? Recently, I threw together a draft of a policy page about promotional content, with some guidelines on what to keep in mind to avoid spamming. (Incidentally, this is for Codidact itself.) I decided to spice things up a bit, and instead of going for a dry, boring, details-schmetails type of policy ... (more) |

@a CVn - I didn't want to decide anything about that by myself, so I left off any mention of an end date. I'd *recommend* posting entries in this challenge as a response to this post, simply for easier browsing, but that's probably something that we should figure out together. (more) |

Writing challenge #1: The great outdoors! Writing Challenge #1 2020-05-06 Hello folks! Mith here. It was suggested over at Let's restart writing challenges! that we should give writing challenges a spin again, here on Writing.CD this time. I figured that since I had a hand in getting these started back on Writing.SE, I could give a... (more) |

Are there advantages in writing by hand over typing out a story? I'm a member of a Discord server for people interested in completing an entire novel during NaNoWriMo (and Camp sessions). At one point, a discussion arose around writing by hand vs. typing out your story. Someone mentioned that they prefer writing by hand, because it's fewer distractions, although ... (more) |

When writing in a school context without ever having been to school, how do I make sure that my story is accurate within school context? I read a lot of YA fiction, a lot of which happens to take place in schools. Recently, an idea jumped into my head for a YA-ish story and told me that it was going to take place in a school. The idea came to me, and the only way it was working when I thought it out would be in a school setting. The ... (more) |

A: How do I translate into a gendered language where the gender would be a spoiler? Go with אתה. While not natively Israeli, I am currently living in Israel. And from what I know, speaking the language and seeing what goes on here, when you don't know the gender, it's generally defaulted to male. For instance, people will generally go "יש מישהו שיודע...", not "יש מישהי שיודעת...",... (more) |

How should I start to write a flash fiction story? I recently saw a contest for writing flash fiction - the contest rules were that it had to be under 100 words long. I thought "Hey, that's cool! I'll give it a shot." So I sat down, and tried to start writing something. Emphasis on tried - nothing would come that would work as a super short story. E... (more) |

Are more or less details better for details that do not play a role in the story but describe where part of the story takes place? I'm testreading a novel for somebody I know. It's an adventure novel targeted at teens, with 60k words. At one point in the first quarter, one of our protagonists comes across some huts. The huts aren't given a discription. These huts are later in the story used by the protagonists... and they still ... (more) |
