Question How to make a dark story not-so-dark (Shining the light in darkness)
I'm writing a war story, and it's dark. However, I find that every scene turns out to be depressing because of it. Readers will be overwhelmed. Are there ways I can induce hope/shine the light in the darkness in my novel?

Answer A: Is it a bad idea to have three protagonists?
You can do whatever you want in your novel. I am writing a book with 4 protagonists, which goes against the rules as well. But if you have enough skill, you can do it. Look at Orson Scott Card's Enders game--I've heard he does this in the book. (Only with 2 characters, not 3.)

How might one go about creating character conflicts that intrigue people? As in, ones that are innovative/original that are not cliched (for example, the love triangle when it was brand new).

Answer A: What to avoid when foreshadowing a death?
You don't make him mention death eg "someday, you'll be the death of me..." Eg Star Wars You don't make him show pictures of home to his buddies. This is a DEAD giveaway (excuse my pun), especially in military fic. You might want to weave in a death theme (Eg gladiator) which doesn't really foresha...

Question Sequels and avoiding sequelitis
Many of you have probably read a sequel to a book and have found it to be worse than the original book. I am writing a sequel and would like to know if there is any way to avoid this "sequelitis". Does anyone have any tips/ things to look out for when writing a sequel? Thanks!
