About 1/3 of the way through my story the main antagonist "wins" and is able to completely remake the world of the story into _his_ notion of an ideal world. The "new" world shares some elements with the previous incarnation but all are altered to some extent. Even character's recollections of previous events is limited and/or significantly altered. I wanted to do this to give the villain a way to show how he is right and to force the characters into a situation that while is impossible, would forcibly shed a light on their other side. Is there any way to do this **without** alienating the reader, who may well have invested significant time in the previous part of the story and feel cheated as a result?
