Comment Post #287181 Okay, this is absolutely an overly pedantic question for what is most likely meant to be a lighthearted challenge, but out of curiosity, what would you describe as a "sentence" in this context?

Comment Post #286821 This poses another confounding factor as well: context. Not just syntactic context like i described above, but also sematic context. Take for example, "Their stock's value decreased"" vs "The company lost millions as their stock's value decreased". A reader might need to be a bit careful to read the ...

Comment Post #286821 We also need to distinguish words which would cause confusion and words which wouldn't. For instance, mixing up "to" and "too" is so common because they can never occur in the same place, and as such we don't actually *need* to distinguish them by spelling; we can distinguish them by sentence structu...

Comment Post #286821 Although it's an interesting question, it seems like it'd be difficult to quantify due to confounding factors. Namely: `1.` I would guess that how common the word is would play a larger part than similarity with other words. For instance, "understand" shares a root with "stand"; but it's far more ...

Comment Post #285947 It is a more general consideration and I don't have any formal style guide I am following, It's mostly for instance when I am writing posts here or elsewhere. Though if those style guides have any particular recommendations, I would be open to hearing them.

Question What is the correct way to mark a section as a translation?
I am often in the situation where I would like to cite a source in another language, and as such include my own translation alongside the quotation. I have been told that translation is a form of paraphrase, and as such using quotation marks is inappropriate as it isn't verbatim. On the other h...

Comment Post #281759 @#53922 Thats exactly it! I remember that the only flag I did here was for a spam post that then got deleted. Seems you've determined the cause :)

Question Flags page returns 500 error when having a flag on a deleted post
For some reason, I can't access my flags page (https://writing.codidact.com/users/53196/flags). It just returns a 500 server error. It seems to only be only on this community for some reason; I can access it fine on the other communities. It is probably because I te one flag I have is on a post...

Question Links in the Q&A banner text give a 404
The links in the banner text for the Q&A category all lead to 404s due to (I assume) outdated links. E.g. "fiction" leads to https://writing.codidact.com/questions/tagged/1/fiction instead of https://writing.codidact.com/categories/1/tags/7.
